Hey everyone! Can you believe we’re already saying goodbye to another year? December has been a whirlwind of client work, kids’ activities, half-marathon training, and doing my best to keep all the balls in the air without losing my mind. Amidst the chaos, I’ve found myself hyper-fixating on a few things that have made this hectic month a bit more manageable—and enjoyable! Whether you’re looking for last-minute gift ideas or just want to treat yourself as we head into the new year, I’ve got some great picks for you.
So, let’s dive into this month’s favorites—The Little Things: December 2024 Edition.
For the longest time, I’ve had my eye on a towel warmer but never quite convinced myself to actually buy one. That changed in October when a friend, hustling to meet her affiliate goals on Amazon, asked if there was anything I needed. The idea of a towel warmer popped into my mind, and I decided to go for it. Now that the chill of the season is setting in, this Towel Warmer has become one of my favorite things. There’s nothing like wrapping up in a warm towel after a shower. Griffin (my 6 year old) is also obsessed and refuses to take a bath without a warm towel – I fear I’ve created a monster.
My love for LMNT isn’t new, but it’s reached new heights this past month. I’ve always suspected that I lose a ton of sodium when I sweat. To test my theory, I tried one of those Gatorade Sweat Patches recently. Though not the gold standard for accuracy, it confirmed my suspicions—I’m definitely a salty sweater! If I don’t replenish quickly then I’ll develop a massive headache after my 1/2 marathon training runs, enter LMNT. On my long run days I’ve been having 2 packets and that seems to be just right. Moving forward, I’m going to start incorporating salt tabs because LMNT packets aren’t cheap y’all, but I love em!
Since I’ve been ramping up my face time on camera (hello 2025 social media goals!), I’ve become increasingly aware of how oily my skin can get throughout the day. Wanting to save my expensive foundation powder for the big moments, I turned to Amazon and found these oil blotting papers. They work SO WELL that now I won’t go anywhere without them. If you’re also battling oily skin, these are a must-have.
It’s not something you can buy (though if you haven’t read the book yet, you can order it here), but the recent movie announcement for “Quicksilver” had to be included in my December favorites. I’m a total sucker for book-to-screen adaptations, and my expectations for this one is high. Quicksilver was a 5-star read for me this year (I loved it so much, I read it twice!). I’m beyond excited at the thought of seeing it come to life on screen—fae, vampires, incredible world building, magic, and swoon-worthy romance—what else could you ask for? The only thing that could top this would be an ACOTAR TV deal, but sadly, that’s still just a dream.
I’m a sucker for good journaling prompts, especially when they’re centered around reflection and manifestation. For the past several years, I’ve completed the YearCompass—a free resource designed to help you celebrate wins, identify areas to improve, and dream big for the year ahead. I highly recommend it if you’re also into this kind of introspective thing.
Our traditional Christmas morning breakfast has revolved around sourdough cinnamon rolls since I began my sourdough journey in 2020. They are one of my absolute favorite treats, and they always turn out incredibly well. Here’s the base recipe I use, though there are many variations available that can accommodate whatever ingredients you have on hand. Since we’ll be spending Christmas in Iowa this year, I’m planning to make them this weekend instead.
Lastly, something for the kiddos. If you have little ones who are as obsessed with Minecraft as mine are and you haven’t yet discovered the Bite-Size Build Books, prepare to be amazed. My kids can spend hours—literally hours—poring over these books, and that’s without their iPads! When they do get screen time, they’re completely absorbed in trying to recreate the structures they’ve read about. While some of the builds can be a bit challenging due to the lack of detailed instructions, these books have generally been a huge hit in our household. We often borrow them from the library, but we’ve also picked up quite a few from the used bookstore.
That wraps up this year’s final edition of “The Little Things.” I hope you found some inspiration or discovered something new to try out. Whether you’re wrapping up warm with a towel warmer, diving into a good book, or spending quality time with your family, I wish you a joyful and peaceful end to the year. Now let’s all go kick some ass in 2025!
