Way back when I was going through functional nutrition school, I met Carley. She is a past colleague’s sister and needed some nutrition guidance during her pregnancy. It was perfect because I needed my very first practice client.
It’s fair to say that when I first worked with Carley, I had no idea what I was doing. So it was a delight to bring her back on years later with way more tools in my tool belt and life experience supporting clients. She came to me feeling terrible, inflamed, struggling with digestive issues, and on the verge of a diabetic HbA1C (a measure of blood sugar over the past 3 months). Like so many of us, Carley had entered motherhood with the priority of taking care of her daughter, which meant her own needs got left to the wayside for a while.
It was truly an honor to watch Carley transform over the past four months. She’s the definition of small changes having a big impact. We worked on lowering her inflammation (using her GI-Map results as a guide) and targeted her blood sugar via supplements and diet. She made huge progress in both her lab markers and her self-reported symptoms, with a 43% decrease in symptoms overall. I loved supporting Carley and can’t wait to see how she carries forward her progress from here on out.

“In the past four months, I have made incredible progress with Amber’s guidance. After years of fertility struggles, loss, and challenges with a newborn, I found myself feeling defeated and honestly depressed at times. I started my journey with Amber as someone who thought PCOS was going to dictate my life and lead to early diabetes. I used that as an excuse for my struggles. While I still feel frustrated at times, I now feel like I have more power over myself and my body.
In just a short time working with Amber, my A1C (marker of blood sugar stability) is not only lower, but it’s also now in the functional range! I have learned to pay attention to what I am eating and focus on increasing protein. I have become more aware of my activity level and have prioritized myself more.
One of the best things Amber taught me was “it’s not a life sentence.” I used to avoid things that would improve my health because the fear of committing to a new way of doing things felt unrealistic. Knowing it’s okay to try something without committing to it forever was liberating.
The ability to slowly change things, to not feel like a failure if I missed a supplement, ate something I used to think was “bad,” or missed a workout, made this journey so easy and enjoyable. Amber’s support and guidance made all the difference. She built me up and helped me not feel suffocated by the fear of failure. I am so grateful for this journey with Amber and the new lease on life and myself.“
